The starting point
The querfeldein aufbrechen website had been built in Webflow. It looked good, but it belonged to the tool: changing a piece of text meant getting to grips with a website builder you only use a few times a year.
On top of that came design ambitions that went beyond standard templates. There was a design draft as a PDF — handwritten lettering, a colour palette of its own, elements that simply don’t exist off the shelf.
The brief
- Move the existing website to WordPress completely, without losing any content
- Implement the PDF design draft exactly, not approximately
- Hand over the site so that the team can change text and images themselves
What we did
A move by checklist, not copy and paste
Moving away from a website builder is rarely just a move. Structure, page layout and navigation had to be rethought for WordPress. We worked through the move along a checklist — page by page, so that nothing is missing at the end and no URL leads nowhere.
The design draft, without compromises
A home page with a hero section, a rotating image strip, two-column text sections and a contact form. The colour palette — anthracite, cream, sage green, orange — came from the draft. For the handwritten lettering, we created a font file from the clients’ own samples and embedded it, rather than settling for a similar standard font.
The image strip on the home page shuffles its order every time the page loads. A small thing, but it makes the site feel different on every visit.
The key educational principles appear on the page as a word cloud: click on a term or hover over it, and its explanation appears in a speech bubble — instead of a block of text nobody reads.
Handover instead of dependency
The project included an introduction to WordPress. Since then, the team has maintained text and images themselves — exactly where the website builder had failed, and the reason the move was worth it.

The result
The site has been online since July 2026. The team maintains text and images themselves; the ongoing costs for the website builder no longer apply. For ongoing operation, a maintenance contract is in place — updates, backups, availability checks.
Client testimonial
